Contact: Naomi Creeger, Senior Press Officer, Mencap
Objectives:
We wanted to film the annual Mencap Snap! photography competition prizewinning ceremony at the V&A.
It's an emotionally powerful event and we wanted to show our sponsors and future sponsors how their money is spent to benefit people with a learning disability.
We also wanted to showcase the talent of people with a learning disability.
Finally, we wanted footage of some of the winners to show to broadcasters as a way in to making short films or documentaries for tv, about their lives.
There are so few people with a learning disability featured on tv and even less of them talk about their lives and giving their point of view.
Mencap wants to change this.
What did The Picture Press do for you?
The Picture Press came along and made this possible for us.
They patiently worked with us to come up with an effective brief, vital since this was the first time we'd filmed Snap!
They came up with a lot for very little, which meant that we could afford to make this film in the first place.
They completely understood the different levels of communication that our winners have and worked with them to make their personalities and thoughts come across in the film.
At our event, the guys worked unobtrusively and with sensitivity to everything that was going on.
We extended our brief to providing web clips for our site to promote the competition and the guys were really flexible with this, accomodating to our shifting demands and delivering the finished product on time.
Benefits:
They exceeded the brief with the edit, making a flowing work of art that we're proud to show to our sponsors and to broadcasters.
Most of all they're up front and great fun to work with.
The finished product has met our objectives, saved us a huge amount of money and worked within our timescales.
The Picture Press did everything they could to help us out as they believe what we do is important - that meant a lot to our team.
Quote:
We highly recommend working with The Picture Press. They exceeded our expectations and made a film that we're proud to show to sponsors and broadcasters.
They're also great people to work with.
